Valérie was born in Paris, and Céleste formed there. Pictured here are a few of the places significant to Valérie: Jourdain, the neighborhood in Belleville where the novella opens; Belleville Park and some of its street art; Bagnolet, the commune in Seine-Saint-Denis where Valérie was born in a housing estate not unlike the one pictured; and Valérie's workplace, the Père-Lachaise cemetery.
